Create Issue Links on Gantt-Charts

Timely dependencies in terms of Gantt-dependencies are done by JIRA native issue links.

If you use JIRA's standard feature to create links between issues, you can use them like other issue link types. But JIRA does not fire an event on issue link creation, so that the Gantt-Chart add-on does not recognize new links, which are done manually in a classic manner. In consequence, no re-scheduling of dependent issues will be done to fit timely aspects.

If you create issue links on Gantt-Charts, re-scheduling will ensure that the issues' planning dates fit according to the dependency type. When installing the Gantt-Chart add-on, the following issue links types will be created once:

Step-by-step guide

  1. ensure, that you have enabled edit mode by clicking on the pencil-icon on the top right: a green background indicates active edit-mode.

  2. move the mouse over the Gantt bar of the source issue: a blue bubble will occur on the right having a tooltip "add link"

  3. click on the blue bubble to start issue linking for Gantt-dependency

  4. move mouse over the Gantt bar of the target issue and a blue bubble on the left will occur.
If you move the mouse over that blue bubble without clicking on it, an additional combobox will be displayed to select the link type as shown on the next following screenshot (#4).

  5. use the default issue link type as displayed on the right hand of the left blue bubble or select your preferred type out of the combo box

  6. finally, click on the left blue bubble to link both issues using the selected issue link type

  7. on the Gantt-Chart both linked issues will be displayed a "connected" using the look and style as defined for the related issue link type
Additionally, depending on the type (Gantt-dependency) the target issue's planning dates will be adjusted if re-scheduling is enabled (default)

If you use JIRA's standard feature to create links between issues, no automatic re-scheduling will take place, but the issues will be displayed in a linked way using the defined coloring and style.
